Cámara Lúcida

Cámara Lúcida. 2018.

A site-specific installation created by Jan Hendrix for Chartreuse de La Lance, an untouched 14th-century cloister building situated in Switzerland.
Cámara Lúcida exhibition is inspired by an ancient drawing technique where the subject is projected on the paper surface with the help of a prism and lenses. Photography and drawing of a wildflower Daucus Carota taken by Jan Hendrix in the Dordogne inspired the 23 delicately cut out panels, each one unique, and set into the cloisters columns.
The courtyard functions as a cámera lúcida, the subtle shapes of the panels are projected on the ancient architecture, generating a fascinating light and shadow play.
